Beer Fridges
The garage fridge is the only appliance in your life that has never once asked where you've been. When it goes down, that's a family emergency. Jake treats it like one.
Garage Calls • Hastings, Nebraska • Just For Dudes
Beer fridges. Kegerators. Chest freezers. Shop heaters. And whatever it is she's mad about this time. Jake pulls up, cracks a cold one, leans on the workbench, and lets you get all of it out. He won't fix your marriage. He'll nod at it. Out here, that's about the same thing.
What Jake Fixes Out Here
The garage fridge is the only appliance in your life that has never once asked where you've been. When it goes down, that's a family emergency. Jake treats it like one.
All foam, no beer. Big talk, no follow-through. Jake won't say who that reminds him of. He'll swap the regulator, pull a test pint, and then a second one, for quality.
Two hundred pounds of venison and a wife who's "not cooking that." Jake will save the deer. Jake will take a backstrap for his trouble. Jake will not raise the subject of the deer with her.
The igniter's shot and she says fourteen hours is "too long to stare at a brisket." Jake will fix the first thing and stare at the brisket with you. It's not too long. It's the right amount.
A man's garage should be 68 degrees year-round, same as the house would be if anybody in it listened. Jake services the shop heater in January and the window unit in July, so you never have a weather-related reason to go back inside.
Jake installs a second thermostat in the hallway. It's connected to nothing. She sets it to 74 and feels heard. You keep the real one at 68. Jake has saved more marriages with a $19 part than Dr. Phil has in thirty years.
The Garage Code™
That's it. That's the whole text. Jake knows it means the beer fridge is down, or she's mad, or both. It's always both.
He backs in. He always backs in. He hands you one without asking, because a man should never have to ask.
Jake has three responses: "Damn." "She said that?" and "That's rough, bud." In twenty years he has never needed a fourth. For special occasions there's a slow "Yyyyep."
Fridge humming. You feeling better. He says "welp," slaps the tailgate twice, and talks through the truck window for another twenty minutes. Still somehow gone right before she's back from her mom's. Guy's got a sixth sense for it.
Complimentary With Every Repair
Jake noticed early on that the beer fridge is rarely the only thing in the garage that's stopped working. So he added a few packages. No extra charge. No eye contact required.

Frequently Asked Questions
In your garage, one hundred percent. Jake's position on any disagreement is determined entirely by whose property he's standing on. It's called professionalism.
Jake is a vault. Jake has also been told a few things by your wife. It's a big vault. Nothing gets out of the vault. The vault just knows a lot.
It's your garage, chief. Jake will crack the door and mention, once, that she can smell it on your Carhartt. She can. She always could.
The cheap kind. The good cheap kind. If you offer him a grapefruit IPA he'll drink it to be polite, and then he'll fix your fridge a little slower.
Jake knows a guy for drywall, a guy for gravel, and a guy with a transmission for a '94 Silverado sitting in a shed outside Roseland. Jake IS the guy other guys know.
Nobody here is, bud. That's why there's a fridge to look at. You'll both stare at the compressor and it'll all just sort of come out sideways. That's the system. It's worked since statehood.
Damn. She said that? That's rough, bud.
Twenty years in the trades. You develop a feel for it. Stop asking.
Dogs like Jake. Next question.
Jake says he's "seen too much." He won't elaborate. He just looks out at the cornfield for a while.
Hastings, Juniata, Kenesaw, Blue Hill, Doniphan, Minden, Grand Island, and any garage, shop, or machine shed in Adams County with a working radio and a fridge that isn't.
The appliance repair is serious. Jake is genuinely very good. Everything else is a joke. Mostly. Go hug your wife. Or have Jake come look at her dryer.

He fixed the fridge, drank one beer, listened to forty minutes about your mother-in-law, and said "damn" at every correct moment. That's worth a six-pack. Scan it. Don't make it weird.
Tips are real money and go straight to Jake. They are appreciated, never expected, and legally cannot be paid in venison. He checked.
